Pack and Prepare

Packing list
The following is a list of necessary and recommended items to bring to camp and items that should be left at home. Some notes on packing:
  • Pack everything in one duffel bag and sleeping bag.
  • Clothes and equipment do not need to be new; borrow those things you do not have. If it is a precious item or irreplaceable, don't send it.
  • Please clearly label all clothing and possessions with first and last name in waterproof ink.
  • Participants will probably get wet and dirty.
  • Temperatures can drop below freezing any time of year.
Required:
  • Bible
  • Sleeping bag (most cabins do a campout - so something that will be warm in 50 degrees)
  • Pillow (recommend a dark color pillowcase)
  • Pajamas
  • Towel(s) - for both showering and water activities (pro-tip: a shower towel with velcro can be a game-changer for feeling comfortable after a shower in the dressing area!)
  • 12-24oz Water Bottle (with campers name on it) - they will be carrying it around, so avoid heavy bottles. There are plenty of places to refill!
  • Pants (1-2 pairs for cool mornings and evenings)
  • Shorts (5 pairs is helpful)
  • Shirts (5 shirts is helpful)
  • Jacket
  • Sweatshirt
  • Undergarments

  • Socks
  • Shoes (will get muddy)
  • Sandals (securely fastening sandals are best)
  • Chapstick
  • Swimsuit
  • Warm hat/beanie - great for cool evenings and campouts!
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Sunscreen - teach young campers how to apply and the importance of re-applying throughout the day
  • Insect Repellant - Look for insect repellent with DEET and teach your children to carefully apply it over sunscreen by spraying onto their hands first and rubbing onto their exposed skin and face.
  • Deodorant
  • Soap
  • Shampoo/Conditioner (travel size is best)
  • Toothbrush/paste (travel size is best)
  • Daypack to carry items on hikes and around camp
Pro tips:
  • Medicine – keep medicine, topical creams, etc., handy on the outside of the bag since you will have to turn these in at check in. If it is an over-the-counter vitamin or medication, consider not sending it as this will require you to go through the Meds line. Additionally, while it is certainly your choice to send vitamins for the week, it may be helpful to know that your child will have to go see the Health Care Volunteer for their vitamin which can be a time consuming process depending on the other circumstances of the day.
  • Hanging toiletry kit – helps them find what they need for trips to the shower house.
  • Mesh bag - to take shampoo, conditioner, and soap into the shower.
  • Flip flops - work great to get to and from the shower and to wear in the shower.
  • Mesh laundry bag – so they have a place to put their dirty clothes each night
  • Garbage bag – to pack for the trip home. Keeps wet things out of their bag, and often things don’t go back in as neatly as they came!
  • Roll their clothes to save space. Uber pro tip for younger campers – roll their clothes in an outfit and put in a ziplock bag labeled for each day – underwear, socks, shirt, all rolled up in their shorts.
  • Pack WITH your child, not for them. Have your son or daughter pack with you so they know what they have with them. This provides them with agency and responsibility. This will also come in handy if items are lost and need to be identified. It also helps them make sure they remember to pack up all their stuff with their counselor when it’s time to go home.
Please Do Not Bring
  • Candy, food, or gum
  • Cell phones
  • Portable electronics
  • Knives/Weapons
