As we finish a wonderful fall season following a fantastic summer at camp, there are several important behind-the-scenes items that we need to replace or repair. These are things that are vital for camp to run, but that people never really think about. In fact, we don't want people to give them much thought because if guests are thinking about them, that usually means there's a problem. As camp staff, we think about all the stuff behind the scenes so that guests don't have to!
We currently have six projects that need attention right away. As you review the list below, remember that the buildings, vehicles, and equipment are all part of the purpose of sharing the love, peace, and grace of Christ at camp!
Lodge dishwasher to wash all those dishes after feeding hungry campers three meals per day: $15,000
Retreat Center roof repair to keep guests safe and comfortable: $15,000
Well pump replacement to provide water for Retreat Center: $10,000
Retreat Center dishwasher to wash all the dishes during winter retreats: $5,000
Lodge roof repair to keep the Lodge safe and protected: $5,000
Tread replacement for Mattracks for the snow van to transport winter guests into camp: $5,000
The total for all of these behind-the-scenes expenses is $55,000.
When all of these things at camp are working properly, guests don’t have to think about them. They can focus on learning about Christ, connecting with other people, and enjoying God’s beautiful creation. They can focus on worshiping and relaxing and participating in all kinds of activities. They can spend their time making memories.
And they can do this because supporters like you have made sure that the roofs are in good condition, the dishwashers sanitize properly, the well pump delivers water, and camp vehicles provide safe transportation.
To help us with the $55,000 to take care of these items and keep camp functioning for guests year-round, please send your gift, online or by mail, by December 31.

Most Critical Needs (Annual Fund): The Annual Fund supports the general operations of camp and is essential to keep camp running. Your gifts help give children, families, and adults a Christ-centered experience at camp that can change their lives.
For the Children Fund (Campership Fund): We believe every child should have the opportunity to experience camp. Gifts to the FTCF provide financial assistance for children who can’t afford the entire fee for camp so that no child is turned away because of finances.
Endowment Fund: The Endowment fund is designed to grow the invested principal over time while allowing camp to use the investment income for programs and operations. Endowment gifts will provide scholarships, help launch new programs, and keep camp fees low. A gift through your will or estate plan is one way to help grow the endowment.

Giving through your will or estate plan has many benefits! Even a modest estate can help your favorite charities while still providing for your loved ones. You can give to Camp Perkins either directly through your will or through a gift model that can provide tax benefits and even income.
How Estate Gifts are Used
Estate gifts help build our Endowment Fund. This fund is designed to grow the invested principal over time while allowing camp to use the investment income for programs and operations. Endowment gifts will provide scholarships, help launch new programs, and keep camp fees low.

- Bequest from Will or Trust: Name Camp Perkins as a beneficiary of your assets through your will or trust. You can indicate a specific dollar amount or a percentage of the balance remaining in your estate or trust.
- Beneficiary Designations: Designate Camp Perkins as a beneficiary of your retirement, bank, or other investment account or your life insurance policy. Tax rates on IRA, 401k, and other tax-deferred retirement plans can be high for heirs, but charitable organizations are not subject to estate or income taxes on these gifts.
- IRA Rollover: If you are age 70 ½ or older, you can transfer up to $100,000 annually in an IRA directly to Camp Perkins, avoiding taxes and helping to meet minimum withdrawals.
- Charitable Gift Annuity: Transfer your cash or appreciated property to a gift annuity that will be managed for Camp Perkins, in exchange for an agreement to pay you fixed income for the rest of your life.
- Charitable Remainder Trust: Transfer cash or appreciated property to a charitable remainder trust that pays income for your lifetime or a specified term of years. The trust may pay income to multiple beneficiaries. The remainder goes to your favorite charities, including Camp Perkins.
- Gifts of Stock or Appreciated Assets: Transfer appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares you have owned for more than one year to Camp Perkins. Camp can sell your securities and use the proceeds for our programs. You receive an immediate income tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities on the date of transfer.
- Life Insurance: Designate camp as the beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy or transfer ownership of a paid-up policy to Camp Perkins. You receive an income tax deduction for the value of your investment. Camp Perkins receives the value of the policy when the Lord calls you to heaven.
