Challenges Faced 2020-2021
Below is more information about the challenges faced by camp during the last few months.
1. Coronavirus caused us to suspend summer youth camp. We were able to hold Ridges backpacking camps, a Leaders in Training camp, and small family camps, but the main summer youth program and larger retreats were suspended. This means fewer children were able to enjoy a week of Christ-following, faith-building experiences in the outdoors at camp. Fewer families had the time away together to disconnect from technology and focus on Christ and each other.
2. Most of our summer 2020 rental groups canceled their events. This resulted in a large income deficit.
3. Fall income was low due to cancellations from rental and outdoor education groups.
4. While our variable costs for summer camp were lower, and we have worked to cut regular expenses, there are still fixed costs to keep camp functioning, and little summer and fall income to help offset those expenses.
5. Some winter groups have already canceled for 2021, others are uncertain, and we are anticipating lower attendance at Camp Perkins winter retreats or having to cancel retreats.
Help by donating: So far we are anticipating a $100,000 income shortfall for 2020. We have asked our camp community to help with this loss. You can invest in the future of the ministry of Camp Perkins with a gift through our website, or you can send a check to the address below.
