Fiber art uses textiles such as fabric, yarn, and natural and synthetic fibers (including wool). It focuses on the materials and on the manual work of the artist as part of its significance. Fiber art has a variety of genres including but not limited to: quilting, weaving, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, felting, braiding, spinning, and more. Fiber art has been a part of culture for centuries.
Get Your Stitch On! This camp will introduce campers to fiber arts through hands on activities and discussions. It will include some history and both traditional and modern day techniques. These techniques may include loom knitting a hat, knitting a dish cloth, needle felting critters, kumihimo (Japanese braiding), felting a scarf, re-purposing wool sweaters into mittens or a bag, or crocheting a lap blanket. Focus will be introduction to the various techniques. Campers will fill out a survey to determine areas of interest.
