2020-2021: Press On

Dear Camp Perkins Campers, Families, and Community,

Thank you for the love and support you have shown to Camp Perkins over the last few months during the pandemic. The staff and board of camp are so grateful for your gifts and prayers to help camp through this difficult time. This ministry would not exist without the love, prayers, financial gifts, volunteer time, and participation of supporters. You are the soul of the ministry.

Currently, Camp Perkins is facing unprecedented challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a harmful impact on the ministry and finances of camp, resulting in a $100,000 projected income loss for 2020. With concerns about attendance at winter events and uncertainty about next summer, we are anticipating losses to continue into 2021.

Camp Perkins needs your help to Press On through this difficult time. As believers, we keep our eyes on Christ, who makes a way for us to Press On through all circumstances. Philippians 3:14 says, “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”

I believe God has great plans for the ministry at Camp Perkins. Through your gifts and prayers, you can help camp Press On through the challenges, knowing that God is all powerful, in all circumstances. You can help Camp Perkins continue to be a haven of creation where people escape the everyday, connect with Christ, and experience transformation.

We will update the Gifts Received information at the top of this page each week. As we continue to pray for you, we ask for your prayers in return, and for your continued support and generosity towards this ministry we all love deeply.

You can invest in the future of the ministry by giving through our website

Winter 2021 Info

Winter retreats have been suspended for January. We are watching and waiting to make decisions regarding February retreats. You can view the information for individual events on the Retreats pages. Camp leadership will continue to stay informed about regulations and guidelines for coronavirus safety and will be prepared to make changes to the winter schedule if needed.

Summer 2021

Is Summer Camp 2021 even going to happen?
We recognize the future feels uncertain right now. You may be wondering, “Is this summer even going to happen at camp?” But we know how much kids and their families need the connection and encouragement of camp right now. We have a path forward and a plan to make camp happen even if the current situation remains largely the same for Summer 2021 - we just need you. We are planning for Summer Camp 2021! We can't wait to welcome your children back to summer camp!

How We’re Preparing for this Summer
Throughout its history, Camp Perkins has remained focused on providing incredible faith-filled experiences for kids of all ages and maintaining the highest standards for the safety and well being of every person who climbs the mountain pass to camp. And so, although we’re hopeful the pandemic landscape will be greatly improved by this upcoming summer, we’re preparing as if things will possibly remain largely unchanged.

Our plan for the summer emphasizes small groups of campers and avoiding activities and setting where different small groups mix together. For campers in their small groups, camp will happen largely as normal - we've always emphasized small group community and this summer will be no different.

No matter what happens, camp is still going to be camp! You’re still going to get to form awesome relationships with other campers and our incredible summer staff. You’re still going to get to spend your time making amazing memories and having the most fun ever! And (most importantly) you’ll still get to experience the life-giving hope of Jesus Christ and be built up in your faith.

Camp leadership will monitor the situation and the local health regulations, preparing to adapt as needed.

Our Plan for this Summer
We know how much kids and their families need the connection and encouragement of camp right now. We have a path forward and a plan to make camp happen even if conditions for Summer 2021 are largely the same as they were for this past summer. (Although we're hopeful that things will improve!)

In light of the current pandemic and recognizing that it is impossible to completely predict how things will look months from now, we've chosen to prepare for the worst case scenario: that conditions for Summer 2021 are largely the same as they were for this past summer. We will continue to update you on the protocols we are developing and implementing.
  • Decreased Capacity - We're limiting our on-site camper capacity to 60% to give campers room to spread out in housing areas and shared spaces.
  • Small Groups - Camper groups will be limited in size to a maximum of 8-10 campers per group. Cabin groups will remain separate throughout the camper week.
  • Separate Cohorts for Community - Cohorts consisting of two cabin groups (maximum of 24 campers) will be pre-assigned and used throughout the week for any shared activities as required.
  • Group Separation - Any large group activities will be restricted to outdoor activities where adequate separation between different groups can be maintained.
  • Health Screenings - All campers will be asked to complete a pre-camp health screening process.
  • Check-In - Camper check-in and pick-up will be as contactless as possible and completely outdoors.
  • Face Coverings - Campers and staff will be asked to wear face coverings in any indoor locations shared by different groups.
  • Enhanced Cleaning - Enhanced cleaning protocols will be used for shared spaces and commonly touched surfaces.

Though we are taking precautions to keep campers and staff safe, we are not able to guarantee that a person on our site will not be exposed to COVID-19; thus participation in any camp program during the pandemic is a potential risk. Persons with known vulnerabilities or who live in a home with an immunosuppressed person should consult with their doctor(s) before deciding whether or not to participate in any summer camp program.

Value of Camp

From Parents:
"Hats off to the most wonderful and dedicated counselors. They went above and beyond in helping the campers and everybody else they came in contact with. Very professional. They made all feel welcome and valued. They are great role models for all the youth."

"My child has visited many church camps. Yours is the most spiritual. She loved First Word and special prayer time with her cabin."

"I feel like my little guy has had a whole new world opened up to him. He came home and immediately started teaching his little sister all the camp songs."

"Savannah didn’t want to leave and has asked every night if she can go back next summer."

"My son has never been one for going to camp. He is a homebody! BUT....he said this was by far the best camp he has ever been to and I think if he could have stayed the rest of the summer he would have. For days after he returned from camp he kept saying how he wished he was still there. This is a VERY high compliment from my son. He loved his fellow cabin mates and ABSOLUTELY LOVED HIS COUNSELOR!"

"My child had a rough year. She came home from camp a different person. Her spirit was renewed and rejuvenated. She learned great life skills at camp and I’ve seen her use them often since she’s been home. She can’t wait to go back!!!!"

From Campers:

"My counselor was so entertaining! She taught me about God in fun ways."

"I love the acceptance and the positivity."

"I learned that Jesus will come back one day."

"I loved all the singing that I learned here. Swimming in the lake was also a great time. Sleeping outside was cold and fun. My favorite part was our river rafting. I am going to come back next year."

"My counselor helped me understand the verses."

"I learned that Jesus is our refuge and we can trust him because he is perfect, ever present, almighty, compassionate, and eternal."

"I love how happy and energetic all the counselors are. They really help motivate me to try new things."
