Our History
Camp
Perkins had it's beginning in 1954 when the Lutheran Layman's League (LLL),
the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), and the Walther League
(WL) contracted a lease agreement with the US Forest Service to secure
thirteen acres of land in the Stanley Basin, now known as the Sawtooth
National Recreation Area (SNRA). The camp became a year-round ministry
in the 1980s as the first full-time staff was hired and the first winterized
facility was completed. Camp Perkins has seen tremendous growth in the
1990s with the addition of many new program opportunities and facilities.
An online tour of our facilities
is available for you to view the camp site.
Today, Camp Perkins
hosts over 3000 guests annually through a variety of summer
programs and year-round retreats.
People of all ages come to take advantage of the 11 wood-heated cabins
and the adult and family Retreat Center, not to mention to take in the
breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and to hear the peace
of our Lord's love for them.
Leadership
Camp Perkins is owned
and operated by thirty-five Lutheran congregations
located in southern Idaho, Utah, and Oregon. One Delegate
from each member church is appointed by their congregation to elect the
